University of Texas and College Poker Life

Posted in Nonclasificat on februarie 21, 2008 by casinodiario

At the University of Texas in Austin, students are still finding plenty of time to enjoy the game of poker. This time of year is when the action often dries out and spring break is in sight. Even with so much going on, , classes tends to get harder, studying becomes more of a priority, but students still have plenty of poker to look forward as their semester winds down.

An important poker club with regular events, host occasional tournaments and poker nights, with different school organizations being the sponsor. In 2006, the AMA of University of Texas held a poker night for charity, which raised money for the  American Cancer Society. Other organizations that have held occasional free poker nights and events include the Electrical Computer Hispanic Organization, Honors Business Association, SEMA (Sports, Entertainment, and Media Association), and the DVSSN (Domestic Violence Survivor Support Network). Though many of these past events have been successful, students looking for something more regular will want to check out the MBA Card Club, as it is the closest thing to a poker club the school offers.

Persons or students, over  21, who are interested in freeroll events that aren’t sanctioned by campus organizations will want to check out Ringers Sports Lounge for weekly tournaments boasting cash prizes. Students interested in other free bar events can check the website lonestarfreepoker.com for information on where to play in Austin. Lonestar currently runs events at Applebees, One-2-One, Rockin Tomato South, and Clicks Billiards. Students looking to hone their poker skills should not take these events lightly, as they serve as a great and inexpensive way to practice one’s game before investing the big bucks.

Students looking for a nice profit won’t have too hard of a time finding a soft, local game around the UT-Austin campus. Most of the games won’t help pay your tuition, but an occasional $50 buy-in tournament isn’t out of the question, nor is a game where a night’s entertainment might cost $10… not including drinks.

For those students who need a taste of casino action, there’s always the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, located a little less than four hours from Austin. While the drive may be staggering to some, students willing to make the trip will find a solid poker room, filled with 16 poker tables and regular action. The poker room holds regular $3/6 and $5/10 limit hold’em, as well as a regular $2/5 NL game. The poker room serves as a great excuse to plan a weekend trip, and is certainly a trip worth making once a semester or so.

Although Most of the local action certainly won’t make a student rich and the nearest casino is a distance away, students can still easily find ways to enjoy the game. So … if u are young and you like poker Texas Universities are opportunities for you.

Europe amaze again -Netherlands Official Blocks Vote - Exclusive Holland Gaming License

Posted in Nonclasificat on februarie 15, 2008 by casinodiario

Dutch government officials postponed a vote in  country’s Senate that would have granted the Netherlands-owned Holland Casino a temporary, exclusive online gaming license. Minister of Justice Hirsch Ballin, cited concerns that the measure would be rejected by the Dutch Senate.

Holland Casino had previously been working with the Cryptologic Network. Only a week ago, the same Ministry of Justice had announced plans to prosecute Dutch banks and financial institutions that processed payments headed to online gambling sites.  Ministry also announced its intent to create a blacklist of ‘rogue’ online sites, on which the determination of illegally processed transactions would be based.

So, the Dutch plan maybe have the risk of running counter to recent European Court decisions in the online gaming trade sector. EU come down against the efforts of governments to protect or enhance gambling-revenue streams by restricting or barring other companies from those nations’ online markets. EU actions will have an impact against other member countries such as Sweden, Germany and France may have played a part in the Dutch Senate’s lack of enthusiasm for the proposed measure.

Sweden’s Tax Spider Nets Poker Players

Posted in Nonclasificat cu etichete on februarie 13, 2008 by casinodiario

Sweden’s tax board Skatteverket , has identified 47 cases of suspected tax evasion, representing €44.5 million in undeclared income, with €5 million purportedly attributed to  individual poker players. Skatteverket announced that it was going to start targeting online poker sites and affiliates for tax evasion.  Dag Hardyson, national project leader for the tax board’s Internet unit, said they weren’t interested in going after poker players; only the companies that provided online poker services or those that made money by directing players to those sites would be targeted. But reports this week identified that poker players are among those now facing back taxes and penalties.

Sweden had developed their own tax web crawlers, they converted over to the Xenon project in 2007. Xenon is a web spider that can be configured to target specific kinds of economic activity. Once relevant websites are identified, Xenon’s Identity Information Extraction Module interfaces with national databases that automatically identify mailing addresses and other identity information present on the websites it has crawled and matches it against national tax records.

It should be noted that US is currently not a part of the Xenon project, but the IRS won’t confirm or deny whether it uses web spiders for tax investigations. The IRS has access to a far more valuable information source relating to online gambling revenue. As part of its settlement with the Department of Justice, the online payment processor NETeller agreed to “cooperate fully” with the US government to avoid criminal prosecution.

Sweden’s online tax collection efforts continue despite the increasingly complicated status of online gambling in Sweden. The Supreme Court cited rulings by the European Court of Justice that challenge the compatibility of Sweden’s Lottery Law, which bans advertising by foreign gambling companies, with Sweden’s commitments to the European Commission treaty. The European Commission has already issued a “reasoned decision” against Sweden for the country’s online gambling laws, which favor its state-owned monopoly and discriminate against foreign competitors.
