PUREPLAY POKER GATHERS 30,000 PLAYERS!

It’s true! Fun online play poker gathers many people around the world. If you know when to stop, this game is not burdened with any expectations and fear to lose anything. Known as the first and probably the largest U.S.-compliant play-for-cash online poker destination, PurePlay has just announced its intentions to organize the first-ever tournament to award a free seat to the World Series of Poker.

As expected, there were more than 30,000 players who gladly wrestled for a $10,000 deluxe seat at the poker championship. The event is said to be held in Las Vegas, this July. Moreover, it has been reported that such an enthusiastic feedback has encouraged PurePlay to kick off a second qualifying tourney. In addition, PurePlay felt this is the right way to motivate its faithful players, therefore it also announced they will be giving away even more seats in the monthly tournaments, leading up to the main event.

Since I am sure you all want to know who the winner of PurePlay’s first WSOP -qualifying tournament is, I should tell you his name is Gregory Jacob Kremer of Sun City West, Ariz. Apparently, he is not unaware of the field, as has been a PurePlay member for about two years.

According to a recent press release, a jollier and richer Kremer stated: ”It’s amazing to win a seat to play for millions of dollars without risking any of my own money! Now I can test my poker skills against the world’s best in competition at the highest level.

PurePlay CEO, Jason Kellerman was also glad about the results: ”Our first tournament in March was by far the biggest, most competitive event we’ve ever hosted. We’re looking forward to even bigger turnouts in April, May and June. Then our winners are off to Vegas.” We are also expecting these ‘turnouts’ he’s been telling us about.

Furthermore, after winning a sack full of money and a little bit more respect, Kellerman invited poker players everywhere to enter PurePlay’s monthly tournaments for the coveted WSOP seats. Unlike other poker sites, PurePlay require no buy ins, deposits or fees of any kind. Consequently, qualifiers run continuously on a daily basis, 24/7.

However, the couch potato poker addicts will also be able to catch an eye on the championship event in Las Vegas, as it is to be aired on ESPN. Notably, back in 2006, lots of players earned a record amount of prize money, estimated at more than $100 million. The top winner took home no less than $12 million, surpassing the combined payouts of Wimbledon, The Masters and the Kentucky Derby.

Overall, Silicon Valley-founded online poker rooms and tournaments offer cash prizes to both play-for-free members and subscribers who pay a low monthly fee. As for the subscriber benefits, they  include access to cash tournaments with over $150,000 in monthly prizes, as well as live chat customer support, no ads during game play, and an individual performance ratings as a bonus, that enable players to compete with others at the same skill level.

Until now, the San Francisco-based company has awarded over $3 million and today is the fastest growing legal online cash poker destination with over 1,000,000 players. So, are you one of them?

“HOLD EM FOR HUNGER “CHARITY POKER CANCELED

Students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill must be really pissed off! While their mates at Case Western Reserve University are playing poker for the sake of science, their less-cool school decides to cancel “Hold Em For Hunger” charity poker tournament due to some legal concerns. It seems that the tournament would break state regulations regarding gambling.

Apparently, this year’s Hold Em For Hunger charity event was scheduled to take place on April 20th. After receiving complaints from concerned individuals earlier in the week- could it be Patrick’s campaign?- lawyers for the school examined state laws pertaining to the event and determined that the event would “violate North Carolina’s gambling laws”.  Did they missed the charity part? The bad news is that this sudden cancellation has left Nourish International, whose chapter at UNC sponsors the charity tournament without thousands of dollars.
According to pokernews.com, tournament organizer and director for HEFH, Graham Boone sid that: “The school was very remorseful about having to cancel the event. They didn’t want to shut us down, but we respect their decision and want the university to do things as legal as possible. The school was not the bad guy.”

It seems that the Nourish International has been helping to “bridge the gap between students and developing communities” since 2002 when they planned the first” Hold Em For Hunger” poker tournament. Over the last three years hundreds of students have taken part in prior events and this charity poker event was helping them to raise thousands of bucks.  The students never minded about the fact that all proceeds collected from the $25 buy-in were going directly to Nourish International. All of them attending the event were to be provided with food, t-shirts, beverages, assorted free gifts. The whole event looked funkier than a just a typical poker tournament.  Boone also added that the prizes which were to be given away at the tournament included an all-expense-paid European vacation provided by STA Travel. They also had a SYM Jet Euro Scooter with a custom UNC paint job, Tandem Sky Dives by Carolina Sky Sports, and a 30Gb iPod and an 8Gb iPod Touch, to give away.
Due to fantastic donations which help sponsor the event, Nourish International- a non-profit organization- has been able to provide these great prizes for the poker players. Not to mention the charity event organizers have been in touch with World Series of Poker World Champion Greg Raymer. The poker legend has offered to help the charity by autographing forty cases of poker chips planned on being used during the tournament. All the signed cases would have contained 500 poker chips.
But, players interested in purchasing one should check out the deal on Hold Em For Hunger website. Notably, the charity estimated about $25,000 at this years’ event. If you’re interested in helping you can also make donations via Nourish International’s website.
Even if the “Hold Em For Hunger” annual tournament will not be taking place this year, Boone wants us to know that they’re not giving up. They will be filing for a government pardon for next year: The timing is too late now to do so!”

Hey guys, how about calling the super professor Charles Nesson ! I hear he makes a strong case for poker as an edifying game no matter what!

POKER:LUCK VS SKILL!

The myth was finally revealed! If you’re an enraged online poker player, then you also believe that poker is most of all, a game of skill. Some people have actually considered this a great premise for a study. Michael Dedonno and Dr. Douglas K. Detterman have tried to find out whether poker is a game of skill or not. Their result could change your online gambling approach. According to “Gambling Law Review”, they started the research with an interesting theory, saying that in games of luck, instruction and strategy are “immaterial”. As for the experimental part of the study, it was conducted at the Case Western Reserve University, where the two brainiacs tested their hypothesis that instruction and strategy count most in a poker player’s performance, meaning poker is a game of skill.                                                                              Under a straight forward title, “Poker is Skill,” give specific details about the whole process, as well as several results of the experiments conducted at Case Western Reserve University.
However, I wonder if this experiment could also apply to the traditional poker playing. Apparently, the test started by subjecting two separate groups of students to poker simulation software. The only difference: one of the groups was given basic poker training, while the other wasn’t. Both of them were made of novice players.
Among other stuff, they were taught to rank starting hands and the importance of paying attention to the actions and decisions of other players. When the groups were tested again, the researchers had a big surprise. The group that that had been given the specific info regarding poker strategies and regulations outperformed the other one. And when the experiment was run with an increased number of hands and more advanced training, once again the trained group performed the best, even better than the first time. I remind you, these tests were performed using a software platform, so it’s questionable whether they can be considered plausible for traditional playing or not. I am just wondering, could this mean the great poker game is turning into a controlled technological game of skill? Should we forget about the beauty of believing in luck?

As a final conclusion, DeDonno and Detterman said that “the reason that poker appears to be a game of luck is that the reliability of any short session is low.” They also added that their second study has shown that reliability was markedly improved after intense training. Their conclusion: “Luck (random factors) disguises the fact that poker is a game of skill. However, as these studies show, skill is the determining factor in long-term outcome.” This theory is also sustained by Annie Duke, who says: “you can purposely lose at poker if you choose.”  That’s a good point! Especially, when it comes from a professional poker player who decided to quit college to gamble on a new life. But, could this explain the recent ban on internet gaming?  I just say let it happen and find a better way to tax it.

So, fellas, if you want to become a poker pro, you just have to study poker as a discipline. Try Harvard, I hear they have included poker in their curriculum. Or at least, they were trying… Either ways, poker is a game you could never get bored with! powered by:http://wwww.casinodiario.com

University of Texas and College Poker Life

At the University of Texas in Austin, students are still finding plenty of time to enjoy the game of poker. This time of year is when the action often dries out and spring break is in sight. Even with so much going on, , classes tends to get harder, studying becomes more of a priority, but students still have plenty of poker to look forward as their semester winds down.

An important poker club with regular events, host occasional tournaments and poker nights, with different school organizations being the sponsor. In 2006, the AMA of University of Texas held a poker night for charity, which raised money for the  American Cancer Society. Other organizations that have held occasional free poker nights and events include the Electrical Computer Hispanic Organization, Honors Business Association, SEMA (Sports, Entertainment, and Media Association), and the DVSSN (Domestic Violence Survivor Support Network). Though many of these past events have been successful, students looking for something more regular will want to check out the MBA Card Club, as it is the closest thing to a poker club the school offers.

Persons or students, over  21, who are interested in freeroll events that aren’t sanctioned by campus organizations will want to check out Ringers Sports Lounge for weekly tournaments boasting cash prizes. Students interested in other free bar events can check the website lonestarfreepoker.com for information on where to play in Austin. Lonestar currently runs events at Applebees, One-2-One, Rockin Tomato South, and Clicks Billiards. Students looking to hone their poker skills should not take these events lightly, as they serve as a great and inexpensive way to practice one’s game before investing the big bucks.

Students looking for a nice profit won’t have too hard of a time finding a soft, local game around the UT-Austin campus. Most of the games won’t help pay your tuition, but an occasional $50 buy-in tournament isn’t out of the question, nor is a game where a night’s entertainment might cost $10… not including drinks.

For those students who need a taste of casino action, there’s always the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino, located a little less than four hours from Austin. While the drive may be staggering to some, students willing to make the trip will find a solid poker room, filled with 16 poker tables and regular action. The poker room holds regular $3/6 and $5/10 limit hold’em, as well as a regular $2/5 NL game. The poker room serves as a great excuse to plan a weekend trip, and is certainly a trip worth making once a semester or so.

Although Most of the local action certainly won’t make a student rich and the nearest casino is a distance away, students can still easily find ways to enjoy the game. So … if u are young and you like poker Texas Universities are opportunities for you.

Europe amaze again -Netherlands Official Blocks Vote - Exclusive Holland Gaming License

Dutch government officials postponed a vote in  country’s Senate that would have granted the Netherlands-owned Holland Casino a temporary, exclusive online gaming license. Minister of Justice Hirsch Ballin, cited concerns that the measure would be rejected by the Dutch Senate.

Holland Casino had previously been working with the Cryptologic Network. Only a week ago, the same Ministry of Justice had announced plans to prosecute Dutch banks and financial institutions that processed payments headed to online gambling sites.  Ministry also announced its intent to create a blacklist of ‘rogue’ online sites, on which the determination of illegally processed transactions would be based.

So, the Dutch plan maybe have the risk of running counter to recent European Court decisions in the online gaming trade sector. EU come down against the efforts of governments to protect or enhance gambling-revenue streams by restricting or barring other companies from those nations’ online markets. EU actions will have an impact against other member countries such as Sweden, Germany and France may have played a part in the Dutch Senate’s lack of enthusiasm for the proposed measure.

Sweden’s Tax Spider Nets Poker Players

Sweden’s tax board Skatteverket , has identified 47 cases of suspected tax evasion, representing €44.5 million in undeclared income, with €5 million purportedly attributed to  individual poker players. Skatteverket announced that it was going to start targeting online poker sites and affiliates for tax evasion.  Dag Hardyson, national project leader for the tax board’s Internet unit, said they weren’t interested in going after poker players; only the companies that provided online poker services or those that made money by directing players to those sites would be targeted. But reports this week identified that poker players are among those now facing back taxes and penalties.

Sweden had developed their own tax web crawlers, they converted over to the Xenon project in 2007. Xenon is a web spider that can be configured to target specific kinds of economic activity. Once relevant websites are identified, Xenon’s Identity Information Extraction Module interfaces with national databases that automatically identify mailing addresses and other identity information present on the websites it has crawled and matches it against national tax records.

It should be noted that US is currently not a part of the Xenon project, but the IRS won’t confirm or deny whether it uses web spiders for tax investigations. The IRS has access to a far more valuable information source relating to online gambling revenue. As part of its settlement with the Department of Justice, the online payment processor NETeller agreed to “cooperate fully” with the US government to avoid criminal prosecution.

Sweden’s online tax collection efforts continue despite the increasingly complicated status of online gambling in Sweden. The Supreme Court cited rulings by the European Court of Justice that challenge the compatibility of Sweden’s Lottery Law, which bans advertising by foreign gambling companies, with Sweden’s commitments to the European Commission treaty. The European Commission has already issued a “reasoned decision” against Sweden for the country’s online gambling laws, which favor its state-owned monopoly and discriminate against foreign competitors.
